Unless you’re taking advantage of half-board deals in your hotel, you’ll need a plenty of cash to be able to eat and drink well in Davos. Budget options include a Migros supermarket and takeaway just above Platz station, or if you’re catering for yourself, the After Hours convenience store, at Promenade 69, is open 24 hours daily. The ultra-swish Choccolino, Promenade 45, is a confiserie and café, with classical music on Sunday brunch time and a proper cup of tea.

There’s a handful of simple pizza/pasta restaurants around town where you can eat for under Fr.20: Hotel Albana, Talstrasse 18, is one of the cosier options; Hotel Dischma, Promenade 128, is another, in addition offering good Rösti and fondues; while Hotel Ochsen’s atmospheric dining room and Stübli also have quality Graubünden cooking at reasonable prices. The large Hotel Europe, Promenade 63, shelters the bright and modern Scala restaurant, with inexpensive pizzas and daily menus for around Fr.20. The Chinese restaurant in Hotel Bahnhof-Terminus is the best in town, authentic cuisine coming in at around Fr.25. If you have a spare Fr.100 or so, you might experiment with the spectacular cooking on display at the Hotel Davoserhof, Berglistutz 2 (081/415 66 66), which also offers the finest terrace views in town.

Focus of Platz’s buzzing nightlife is the all-night Ex-Bar, alongside the tourist office, which only really gets going after 3am. The Chämi, 200m east, is another very popular choice. There are pool tables in the HotelMontana’s lively bar, and cocktail pianists in the Hotel Europa, which also hosts the Cabanna disco and the canton’s swankiest casino.
